A Passport is a travel document issued by a nation’s Government to the country’s citizens. As a citizen of India, we are keen to acquire the Indian Passport that gives us the freedom to enter any country while declaring we are Indian nationals. It is, therefore a crucial document for any International travel. It also doubles up as your identity proof of being an Indian citizen in a foreign land.

The Government of India has simplified the process of getting or applying for a Passport, and it can be completed partially online by visiting the official website of Passport Seva.

? It takes about 7 to 14 working days to issue a passport. If you apply for the Tatkaal (Instant) Passport, it will be dispatched within 1 to 3 days.

What is the age requirement for obtaining a Passport?

✅??Indian citizens aged 18 years & above can apply for a Passport. Any eligible person can apply for a new passport or renew an existing passport by submitting the necessary documents. 

Apart from this, Passports can also be issued for ✅??newborn children and ✅????minors who are below the age of 18 years. 

✅?‍?‍? ?‍?A passport is issued to minors based on the application made by their parents or legal guardians after submitting the required documents. 

What documents are required for the Passport application in India?

Listed below are the essential documents required to apply for a new Indian Passport.

? Identity proof – Like an Aadhaar Card, Election Voter ID card, or any valid photo ID card.

? Proof of Age – Birth Certificate, School Leaving Certificate, etc.

?Driving License, PAN Card & Aadhaar Card.

?Proof of Address – Electricity Bill, Water Bill, Gas Connection, Telephone or Mobile Bill.

? Photo Passbook of active Bank Account.

? Rent agreement (if applicable)

Can we apply for Passport online?

?Yes. The Ministry of External Affairs has made all the initial passport application processes online. So, you will have to go through the online application process to get your Passport. 

How to apply for a passport online in India?

Step 1: 

?️Visit the official website of Passport Seva on your computer –

Step 2: 

?An existing user can log in using the login ID & password created and used earlier.  

?But, if you are a first-time user, register to create a new account by clicking on ‘New User Registration on the home page.

Step 3: 

? Enter your user ID & password, then solve the captcha code to verify you are not a robot and click on ‘Register‘.

Step 4: 

? Login with your newly created registered login ID in the Passport Seva Online Portal.

Step 5: 

✅ After the Login, choose from the options provided to click on the link – ‘Fresh passport/passport reissue

Step 6: 

? Fill out the required details carefully in the application form and 

?Submit by clicking on the ‘Upload e-form link’.

Step 7: 

? Next, go on the ‘View Saved/submitted Application‘ screen and click the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment‘ link to Make the Payment and ?Schedule an Appointment.

Step 8: 

?Use the ‘Print Application Receipt‘ link for a printout of the application receipt. 

?The receipt has the important application reference number or appointment number, which must be kept safe for future reference.

After completing the application and payment process, you must visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO) as per the scheduled appointment with the original documents for verification.

Please note: While applying for the fresh issuance category, you must ensure that you have never held a passport of the used category in the past, i.e., a Diplomatic Passport, Official or Ordinary Passport.

Online payment is mandatory for booking appointments at all Passport Seva Kendra & Passport offices, and any one of the following modes can be used:

?You must arrive on time at the selected Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) as per your appointment.

✅Stand in a queue for the first verification of all your docs.

❌If your docs don’t fulfil the requirements, you’ll be sent back after being informed which document is missing or faulty.

*️⃣ If your initial verification is successful, you’ll be given a token number and allowed further inside.

?You will then have to pass through windows A, B, & C for primary scrutiny with biometric and other verifications.

✅Then, you’ll be given a token stating the appointment is successful, and the file is ok to proceed for the final stage, which is the  Police verification.

⏳After about a week… 

??‍♂️You will get an intimation on the phone regarding your appointment for Police Verification, where you must visit the Police Station for the same. 

?  After the satisfactory verification by the officials, issuing a passport will take 7 to 14 working days. So, your passport will arrive at your residence within two weeks by Speed Post.
